The mother of the bride is an important role and she should look the part. Most of the bridal shops carry gowns, dresses, and other clothing options specifically geared towards the mother. The mother wants to be prominently distinct from the other guests so that everyone knows that she is the mother of the bride. However, she does not want to take away from the bride in any way. Although they make great dresses in white and cream, she may want to avoid these if the style is similar to the bride's. She also has the authority and obligation to make the seating arrangements for the wedding reception. Wedding invitations in general are handled by the mother of bride who orders and distributes them to the guest list approved by the bride and groom. She will have to follow up with any guests who do not RSVP.  The mother of the bride is essentially the hostess of the wedding and need to make sure all guests are comfortable at the wedding reception.  It may be a good idea to partner the mother of the bride up with someone who isn't directly involved with the bridal party. This way she's not overwhelmed with a hundred different things and you can rest-assured that everything will be taken care of!

The mother of bride has a lot of responsibilities, but don't get these confused with the Maid of Honor's. Both women play a very significant part in the wedding planning and should be extremely attentive to detail and one-hundred percent dependable. If they lack either one of these characteristics, grouping them with others will only benefit you!
