Chicago Wedding Gown Preservation

If you're going to spend a fortune on the wedding gown of your dreams, take the time to preserve it properly after the celebrations. Wedding dresses can be thousands of dollars. By paying a little more to have it cleaned you can keep it tucked away safely for your daughters and or grandchildren. Don't let the dress be something that you wore once. It's a waste to let something so valuable and meaningful spoil due to something as simple as forgetting to have it professionally preserved. There are many places in Chicago that offer great gown preservation services and we've posted some of the better ones on our website. Call them before your wedding and set up an appointment to drop your dress off. You can have your mom or mother-in-law drop it off for you as you make your way to the Bahamas!

The price of getting your gown preserved can be a little steep, depending on where you go. You want good service for a reasonable cost! Places will go as low as seventy dollars and as high as seven-hundred, so shop around and compare prices before settling. More intricate wedding gowns will be more expensive to have cleaned than simpler ones. The preservation company that you choose will have to do a thorough examination of the gown analyzing the dye, ornamentation and fabric before giving you a specific quote.

It's important to have any stains removed as quickly and as promptly as possible. Sugar stains from wine or perspiration will eventually turn into brown spots if not taken care of. Good Chicago preservation companies will use a very strong cleaning solvent to remove any unwanted stains and discoloration. Wedding dresses in general have a tendency to fade into a yellow color over time due to the acidity that is present in the dye of wedding gown fabric. To combat this from happening, the gown preservation company will also stuff the dress with acid-free tissue wrap it in plastic and put it in an acid free box.

Exposing the dress to oxygen is detrimental to the conservation of the dress. Over time, zippers and anything metallic will eventually rust. Chemicals are used to absorb the moisture and oxygen inside the box to prevent this from happening. Moisture overall is very bad for the wedding gown's state. Too much moisture can lead to fungal growth and or bacteria.

After the gown has been properly preserved, try to store in in a clean dry place. Lay it down on a flat surface. If you have it upright this may cause the dress to shift, creating distortion and wrinkling in the fabric. Places such as basement, garages and cellars are bad for storing wedding dresses because the temperature tends to be extreme in these places. You don't want the dress to attract bugs and bacteria but you also don't want it drying out.

There are so many things to think about when it comes to properly maintaining a wedding dress, but isn't it worth it? Most wedding dresses are worth almost or more than the florist and caterer, and you have the option to keep it in good condition. Make it a family keepsake and pass it on to your kids. Take a look at the gown preservation companies that we have here at Chicago Bridal Site.
